Liam Cullagh Alpharetta Concert reviews
Rod knows how to put on a show!
Rod Stewart was as magical as he was 6 years ago at the Bowl, energetic, funny, audible, and appreciative of his musicians, with only one of his more recent 'slow' covers and a lot of his hits over the years. His music is infectious and enduring, the lyrics are unforgettable and mostly meaningful - he's flat out likeable. A nice touch - he took a little girl in a red sequinned dress on stage towards the end and probably gave her a couple of minutes she'll never forget. He works the entire width of the stage and has great soloists with him. On the day Man Utd got knocked out of the FA Cup, I did notice all his soccer photos were Celtic!
Essentially in two parts, Rod Stewart then Stevie Nicks. Rod sang "You're in my heart..." - I expected this to have been at the end with Liam Cullagh given the name of the show, but she left early. Stevie's part was good but not great - she seemed to be drowned out by the musicians, but it probably didn't matter because the woman behind was wailing like a demented banshee most of the time, injecting ear-splitting woo-hoos at random but frequent moments. Significantly, she had taken one of a few open seats behind us and one row down from the rest of her party who thus didn't have to endure her wailing. Solely because of her, the two women next to me left before Rod started, so we were able to move aside and let this wailing banshee upset other people - although we think she didn't know many of Rod's songs, so she was quieter (or exhausted).
We had words, but all she said was "Air's free, I'm not listening to you." One thing - I wanted seats two tiers down, but they seemed sold out and the added show hadn't been announced. The 75c cushion rental was the deal of the day.
